So what does a homebuilt amp sound like?

Well this is an example. Horrible playing (I will only apologize for my guitar playing one, I was thinking alot more about the sounds of the amp than what I played. Not that I'm much good anyway), but illustrates some of the more or less screaming sounds you can get out of my little firefly amp. This was recorded the worst possible way, taking the Herzog line output straight into the computer, without any eq. Will sound fizzy in headphones. Sounds alot better through a speaker, or after some speaker emulation (using for example my guitar port with just the speaker emulation switched on). Will post that at a later date.

Oh yes, and don't plug your amp output straight into the soundcard if you want the card to survive., this amp haz a simple herzog line output which works very well.

The first one... of many? Somehow I doubt it...

So, here goes... This blog is my attempt at creating some kind of record of my occasional brave attempts at buidling guitar amplifiers. Considering that I rarely have time to build on my amps, will I ever get to post anything about them? Maybe the pride of having built something that actually kind of works will evetually push me into publishing it.

If you stubled on this hoping for more info on building amps, ax84 is a very good site, and amazingly friendly. First, though read their HIGH VOLTAGE WARNING . This is not a joke, the voltage inside even a small valve (= UK english for tube) amp can be a lot higher than in your socket. Read this as well just to make sure.

Come back (but not to often) for more...
